What Is a PMZ File?
A .pmz file is typically associated with one of the following formats:
- Pocket Music Zip – A compressed audio project used by older mobile music creation apps.
- Adobe PageMaker Compressed Document – Rarely, it may refer to a compressed version of an Adobe PageMaker file (though more commonly uses
.pmd).
- Custom or Proprietary Data – Some software uses
.pmz for internal data storage.
How to Open a PMZ File
Follow these steps based on your operating system and suspected file type:
Option 1: Try Renaming to .zip
Many .pmz files are simply renamed ZIP archives. To test this:
- Make a backup copy of your
.pmz file.
- Rename the extension from
.pmz to .zip.
- Double-click to open with any standard archive tool (e.g., WinZip, 7-Zip, macOS Archive Utility).
Option 2: Use a Hex Editor or File Identifier
